Can an active component generate an impedance?

Absolutely! Impedance actually refers to the resistance encountered when alternating current is conducted through a wire. Generally speaking, there are mainly three types of impedance: Characteristic impedance, differential impedance and coplanar impedance.


PS: Impedance is a problem that we need to solve in the process of PCB production. If the impedance of the signal trace cannot be accurately controlled, impedance distortion will occur, which will affect the signal transmission and result in design failure. Thus, accurate control of impedance is one of the keys to a successful PCB design.


Apart from that, there are a couple of factors to affect PCB impedance: Dielectric thickness, dielectric constant and wire width; Furthermore, in order to distinguish the resistance of DC, the resistance encountered by the alternating current that is called impedance (Z). [Z=√ R2 +(XL -XC)2]
