PCB Fabrication: Minimum Thickness PCB

Time:2017-07-03 10:53:54 Click:

Minimum thickness PCB means the thickness of the printed circuit board is thinner than normal PCB. The minimum thickness is 0.2 mm for the majority of the circuit boards. But at times, limited space or margin or due to need of the design, there is a demand for minimum thickness such as 0.2 mm, 0.4 mm, 0.5 mm board, etc. Therefore, this circuit board can be used in sensor card, SIM card, and so on.

The PCB is an assembly of a particular or extra cores linked mutually by means of sheets of moderately cured epoxy which is called as prepreg. Variety of finished board thickness can be achieved with the blend of various core thickness and sheets of prepreg. Yet, the different laminate thickness alternatives are given to the customers in the range of 0.008 inches to 0.240 inches and they are 0.2 mm (0.0079 inch), 0.4 mm (0.016 inch), 0.5 mm (0.020 inch), 0.6 mm (0.024 inch), 0.8 mm (0.032 inch), 1.0 mm (0.04 inch), 1.2 mm (0.047 inch), 1.5 mm (0.062 inch), 1.6 mm (0.063 inch), 2.0 mm (0.079 inch), 2.3 mm (0.091 inch), etc.

However, the multiple laminate choices are available in the market for the quality end product. The laminate thicknesses are generally used as per the specific instructions and needs. The standard thickness of 1.6 mm (0.063 inch) is usually offered.

Many times circuit board surface finishes depends on its solder mask and thickness. The suitable surface finish should be selected as per the board thickness. This can further result in an increase or decrease in the price. The choice of standard PCB thickness and solder mask may not have considerable effect on the price.

There is change in cost as per board thickness and customer requirements. The cost increases due to a selection of non-standard minimum board thickness, as they are more expensive than standard thickness materials. Different modes of communication can be used to coordinate regarding minimum thickness related queries. The channels can be phone, email, live conferencing, etc.
